Stoic Browser vs ChatGPT Atlas

Atlas is gone. Here is what replaces its agent mode, and what doesn't.

Checked 12 Oct 2026 · ChatGPT Atlas site

The short answer

OpenAI shut Atlas down on 9 August 2026 and moved its browsing features into the ChatGPT desktop app and a Chrome extension. If you used Atlas for agent mode in your own accounts, Stoic Browser runs Codex (or another CLI) in signed-in workspaces on macOS, Windows and Linux.

  • Atlas was macOS-only; Stoic Browser runs on macOS, Windows and Linux
  • Atlas agent mode needed a paid ChatGPT plan; Stoic Browser uses the Codex CLI on the plan you already have, or 15 other CLIs
  • Stoic Browser adds per-product logins, MCP access and scheduled automations
  • No built-in ChatGPT sidebar: Stoic Browser uses the CLI you install

What each one is

Stoic Browser

Stoic Browser is a desktop browser for founders who run more than one product. Each product gets a workspace with its own logins, your installed coding agents (Claude Code, Codex and 14 more) work inside those workspaces, outside agents can drive them over MCP, and recorded chores replay on a schedule. Free for 2 workspaces; Pro is $29 once.

ChatGPT Atlas

ChatGPT Atlas was OpenAI's Chromium-based browser, launched for macOS on 21 October 2025 with ChatGPT in a sidebar and an agent mode for paid subscribers. The Windows and mobile versions announced at launch never shipped, and OpenAI shut Atlas down on 9 August 2026, pointing users to the ChatGPT desktop app and a Chrome extension.

Questions

Something missing? Write to hello@stoicsoft.com.

Is ChatGPT Atlas still available?

No. OpenAI's help center set Atlas to stop working on 9 August 2026 and moved its browsing features into the ChatGPT desktop app and a Chrome extension. Export your Atlas bookmarks if you haven't.

Can I use my ChatGPT plan in Stoic Browser?

Yes, through the Codex CLI: sign in to Codex with your ChatGPT account, then pick Codex in Stoic Browser's chat. It gets browser tools in the workspace you choose.

Can I import my Atlas data?

Stoic Browser imports from Chrome, Brave, Firefox and Safari, not from Atlas directly. Export bookmarks from Atlas as HTML into Chrome first if you still have them.
